Newcastle's Lascelles says points finger at Utd Centre backs.
Lascelles was frank in his assessment of Jose Mourinho's side saying his defence did not know what to do with the ball under pressure.

"They have got some great players, but I don't think United turned up," the Newcastle captain said.

"We have played against Arsenal and Man City and you can really see the quality and one mistake or a lack of concentration and a goal will go in.

"I don't think they were at it from the start of the game - a lot of their players went missing.

"It was probably the way we were playing, we made them play like that.

"In the first half they were making a lot of mistakes, passing the ball around but it was down to our pressing.

"We were aggressive, and they didn't like it. You could see their centre-halves on the ball and they didn't really know what to do with it.

"We set up really well and we matched up really well against them. The manager got it spot on."

RE: Newcastle's Lascelles says points finger at Utd Centre backs.
Yeah everyone knows our CBs are scared shitless when they get the ball even without anyone around them. Our whole team is too when they receive the ball under pressure, they automatically kick it back to the person who passed to them or back to defense/GK. It's embarrassing as fuck how little anyone will receive a pass and turn or play a 1-2 etc.

Regardless Lascelles shouldn't talk too much, but for Sanchez dithering on the ball on an open net and other inexplicable misses we still should have won that match even with our crap back 4.

Ifs and buts don't restore a 16 point gap.

Remember what the issue was last year? Lack of killer instinct, are you telling me 18 months on that issue still exists? If so that is a coaching issue because we have signed Lukaku Sanchez Mikhi Ibra Pogba Matic and sold Rooney Depay Mikhi since so it can't be a personnel issue completely.

Ineffective coaching! The manager can't leave his stamp on the team. A stamp he made at lesser clubs easily with less resources. Either he is half the coach he used to be or he has bought and sold badly, which is it?

Definitely a combination and there's no denying Jose is not half the manager he used to be and Pogba and Co are not half of what we pay them to be.

The same goes for defence. We are prehistoric at the back. Lumping the ball around. Pretty much very little investment in first team defenders. Bailly and Lindelof have barely played and dumb and dumber have been mainstays. Dumb has been OK, dumber needs to go as soon as the next window opens. However once again a case of ineffective coaching and a bad transfer policy, Bailly is not reliably fit and available and Lindelof is not a stong defender.

It all stems from the managers decision making and coaching ability. Had he had an emphasis on playing out from the back, he would have bought new defenders in because clearly Jones can't lead , Smalling is not a footballer, Valencia is a robot and Young is a make shift. Even then as a coach you look at the best available passing footballers and your choices are: Shaw Rojo Lindelof Young then if your short Valencia and Jones. But never do you consider Chris Smalling.

Then you look at midfield. In a week where Tom, Dick and Harry are saying Pogba lacks the ability to play in a midfield 2 he plays in a midfield 2 despite not being fully fit. Who's fault was that? The managers mostly and then Pogba for being unable to help Matic for 6 months and Man Utd for 18 months.

Samey players drifting around, hiding, getting in each others ways, playing in the wrong positions and not taking any responsibility.

Bad coaching and what else? Immaturity, lack of killer instinct, cowardly, lack of courage, lack of confidence and cohesion. Where have I heard this before? Fast Rewind 24 months....

I don't care if we are 2nd and 2 points clear, I don't care if we have the 2nd best defence in the league or City has warped our perspective.

We are 16 points adrift, we are barely winning big games, we have lost twice in three, we look awful at both ends and have thrown away 10 games out of 27.

But yeah ifs and buts and we would have been only 13 points behind Icon_lol

Clearly nobody wants to acknowledge the truth.

4 more months to earn a 3rd season.

Buying Sanchez does not paper over the cracks.

Do we have to wait till we are 5th and trophyless to doubt what's going on?

Its time Jose took his job seriously. Its time to make examples out of bad players and if he doesn't, for the 3rd time Utd will need to pull the plug on yet another "project".

He's got 4 months.

Yeah not arguing that we didn't have issues just saying that nobody Newcastle player should keep his head down and not spout off that they somehow shut us down when we had 4-5 clear golden opportunities to score and they had basically 1 all match solely due to Smalling's idiotic belly flop. And yes our inability to finish chances is still killing us.
